A creative teacher with a professional and recreational background in chess, maths and physics
Having found that traditional classroom teaching didn't always suit the way I learned, I'm passionate about making lessons engaging, memorable and tailored to each student. I believe learning should inspire curiosity and confidence, equipping students with skills that last far beyond the next exam.
My educational path means that I have personal experience of a range of learning - mainstream, homeschooling, and the Steiner approach as well.
Before becoming a tutor, I spent almost a decade as a Senior Scientist for the UK Government. I hold a Physics degree from the University of Exeter, a Master's in Electronic Engineering from the University of Surrey, and I am Enhanced DBS checked.
When I'm not tutoring, I'm developing Chess Near Here—a project to encourage more over-the-board chess—and enjoying the outdoors, travelling and spending time with my family.
I am also a member of the Stroud Chess Club and, before moving here, became Chess Champion of the Salisbury Chess Club.
